An Urgent Challenge
The Reorganization and Accounting System/Process Implementation at
St. Richard's Episcopal Church
St. Richard’s Episcopal Church was in a bind. With the complicated task of fund accounting and a severe lack of controls, the parish had
unknowingly overspent their budget by over 30%, depleted their reserves, and now faced a current year budget deficit of $75,000. To make it
worse, they had no reliable financial data to utilize in searching for a solution.
AMV Consulting provided the thorough historical analysis, an interpretation of the ‘real’ financial situation and recommendations for a
financial management process that met the standards of both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Episcopal Church’s
recommended methods. Anne Vickers’ leadership and disciplined execution of the reorganization project led to a remarkable turnaround in the
state of financial affairs in a period of months – the 2008 year ended with a $17,000 budget surplus based on the renewed confidence of a well-
educated and informed parish.

Starting off Right
QuickBooks Implementation with a Side of Financial Management Education at
Pinellas Internal Medicine Associates (PIMA)
PIMA wanted to start out right. Three young doctors, fresh out of residency, wanted to get busy saving lives, not dealing with cumbersome
business tasks. They had a vision for their practice --efficient and green, with no excess overhead expense or administrative time demands. As
partners with HCA, the nations’ largest health care system, the young physicians wanted to ramp up quickly with best practices – they were
eager to implement new technologies which now enable practices to operate very differently than their traditional colleagues. This would
require a quick study on financial management and immediate hands-on experience.
AMV Consulting assisted the doctors with implementing QuickBooks accounting system and establishing financial management procedures
for their combined practice. Customized training sessions gave the doctors the accounting knowledge and confidence they needed to start.
With the doctors’ open mindedness and focused drive, they set up a truly paperless, efficient office including electronic patient charts, online
bill pay and payroll, networked analytical tools and real-time reporting - with no additional administrative positions required.
With AMV providing regular CFO-level expertise in a cost effective arrangement, the doctors know that their financial management is tight,
accurate and focused on the future growth of their successful practice.
Managing Growth or the Lack of It
Defining the Business Model and Tightening Controls at Chewning Inspection Services
Chewning Inspection Services had been growing so quickly and successfully for years that they did not dedicate much time to financial
management issues. But when the housing market turned, this need became critical.
AMV Consulting provided education in financial management reporting and procedures, tools to define and analyze the financial data in a way
that highlighted opportunities for innovation and improved control, and a partnership for ongoing analysis and interpretation. As Lisa Demmi,
Director of Operations explains: "You can know what you need to do, but not know how to get from A to B. Anne gave us hope, tools and a
greater understanding so that now I feel I'm back in the driver's seat."
Stacie Schaible of Tampa Bay's News Channel 8 featured the relationship between AMV Consulting and Chewning Inspection Services in her
ongoing Money 911 series on Small Business Survival. You can view the story by clicking on the link below.
